Editor's Note -- This is the first of two parts.
Some of your Philadelphia Eagles jerseys of players on offense might become outdated soon.
As the team now ranks as one of the worst in the National Football League, fans should expect many players -- offense and defense -- to join Coach Andy Reid when he is expected to be shown the door at the end of this dismal season. (We'll take a look at the offense first.)
Count Quarterback Michael Vick among one of the first to go. Vick is sitting out due to a concussion and so the team can take a look at rookie QB Nick Foles.
If the team decides to stick with Foles the rest of the year -- meaning Vick would earn $1 million a game standing on the sidelines -- then Vick is certainly gone.
The fact that he will also earn a boatload of money is another reason to end this Vick experiment.
So who should join Vick.
Well Foles will stay even if he isn't the starter next year. Third-stringer Trent Edwards could be a cheap signee to return to have a veteran backup on the bench.
As far as the running game, LeSean McCoy is pretty much the team's franchise player so he's going nowhere. Rookie Bryce Brown has shown signs of speed and toughness so he's a perfect compliment to McCoy.
Fullback Stanley Havili has been impressive when he's been on the field so he should stick. Rookie Chris Polk hasn't really been given much of an opportunity but it doesn't hurt not to keep him around.
We'll probably see the last of Dion Lewis after this year.
One surprise cut could be wideout Jason Avant. Avant has always been solid, but Riley Cooper is starting to show signs that he can be just as dependable. So Avant could be a casualty.
While wide receivers DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin should serve as offensive firepower, they've fired off blanks this year due to a pathetic offense. That could change with a new coach next year.
Tight end Brett Celek's season has stunk. But Celek is one of the foundations of this football team. He still is steady. Backup Clay Harbor could find himself on the waiver wire once the season ends as the Birds try to bulk up at the position.
The offensive line will probably be a place for the most changes on offense.
Consider tackle DeMetrius Bell to be among the first cuts this off-season. Fellow tackle King Dunlap could be right behind him. Don't expect late signee Jake Scott to be back either. Guard Evan Mathis might be history as well. Center Dallas Reynolds might be turning in his locker as well.
And there's a good chance first round disappointment Danny Watkins will finally get his chance to become a full-time firefighter.
Tackles Jason Peters and Todd Herremans and Center Jason Kelce should be back from injury to help stabilize the offensive line. Rookie Tackle Dennis Kelly might be a decent backup. He's still young and could get better with experience.
So, to recap, expect Vick, Lewis, Avant, Harbor, Bell, Dunlap, Mathis and Watkins to be on one of the first planes out of Philly when this season finally comes to a close.
Next week, we'll take a look at expected changes on defense.
