While challenger Mitt Romney is in a dead heat with President Barack Obama in some polls, Montgomery County voter registration numbers tell a different tale.
In the six-month registration window between the 2012 Primary and General Elections, the Democratic Party gained 8,639 registered voters, while the Republican Party brought in 3,546. Of the 17,893 voters who registered in that time period, 5,708 of them registered in various other parties.
As of the October voter registration deadline, the Democratic Party had 255,227 registrants and the Republican Party had 215,205 out of 554,870 voters in Montgomery County.
Just prior to the 2012 Primary Election, there were 246,588 registered Democrats and 211,659 registered Republicans out of 536,977 total voters in the county.
