Upper Moreland recently recognized Patrol Officer William J. Hoffman for his years of dedicated service to the township.

Hoffman officially retired on March 31 and the Board of Commissioners and Acting Police Chief Alex Levy presented him with a plaque at Monday’s board meeting.

Hoffman was hired was on March 12, 1980 and served the Upper Moreland Police Department for 33 years.

“Time has flew by and here it is he’s retiring,” Levy said. “He had a rather illustrious career here … He’s had several high-profile arrests, including an armed robbery who just robbed the All Night Deli, a robbery at the Thrift Drug Store, and he arrested men who burglarized two businesses on the unit block of York Road.”

Hoffman’s family was at the presentation. He met his wife Trish while she was working for the township in 1981.

“It’s always good when we have something this positive,” Upper Moreland President R. Samuel Valenza said. “We will miss Bill.”

Current Upper Moreland police officers and retired officials were on-hand at the ceremony.

“The common denominator with Bill is that he was always a gentleman,” Levy said. “I think everyone who knows him and worked with him would agree with me on that.”
